In a presentation at the ERA Regional Airlines Conference in a damp Edinburgh this week, David McMullen from SimpliFlying, a Singapore-based aviation consulting firm, revealed some interesting data about airlines’ social media habits.
McMullen said the company’s research shows there are just 213 airlines on social media out of more than 1,000 worldwide. And of those 213, the company said, just 88 actively manage their social media accounts.
The point was to show that airlines can do more to engage with those who matter: passengers.
The underlying theme of the presentation was in step with that which ran through the whole conference: regional airlines have to think differently.
That’s not just on improving customer engagement via social media, but also the day to day running of an airline and even the very business models they pursue.
